Why donate to the Cape Care Fund?

The Cape Care Fund’s mission is not only to raise funds and contribute toward a thriving, sustainable NPO sector, but also to enable impact where it’s needed the most.

The national slowing of economic growth, compounded by the lasting socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and a provincial unemployment rate of 19.6% has resulted in an increased level of hardship and vulnerability experienced by both children and adults in the Western Cape. The number and scale of disasters has had a disproportionate impact on the poor, affecting thousands of indigent households across the Western Cape during the last year.

This climate, in turn, has led to an increase in demand for social sector services, while the NPO sector has simultaneously experienced funding stagnation, cuts and even cessation from their regular donors in both the private and public sectors.

Therefore, the NPO sector, many who do their work in historically underserved areas, have come under increasing financial pressure and face challenges with sustainability.

Donating to the Cape Care Fund is an opportunity for the integrated and coordinated collaboration between donors and credible social sector organisations.

There are 30 914 registered NPOs in the Western Cape, operating across multiple sectors including the social services sector. Of these, 17 364 are non-compliant with the NPO Act. The Cape Care Fund aims to channel donors to vetted, credible organisations so that donors can be confident that their funds are being used for its intended purposes.

The partnership between The Health Foundation of South Africa and the Western Cape Department of Social Development means that donors will be met with a wealth of experience, insight, and the most developed strategic perspective on the province’s social sector available. Both organisations have a track record of rigorous governance structures and procedures and clean audit outcomes.

The Cape Care Fund offers a unique value proposition to donors, providing the following:
